James Sheldon IV (1821-1887) was a Buffalo lawyer and judge. His father James Sheldon III (1792-1850) practiced law in Buffalo 1815- 1832. Judge Sheldon and his wife Sarah Carew Sheldon had nine children, including Grace Carew Sheldon, a prominent Buffalo newspaper woman, Sara P.
